We made it from Delhi to Jaipur. Out first train experience (btw, to get to the train station is challenge itself but we figured out that the best is to ask policemen for information - it scares all overpriced rickshaw drivers away) and the first time in India - we were impressed. Flo - special comment for you: Indian trains leave an darrive on time! :-)
And in Jaipur/Amber was awaiting us out first real couch-surfing experience. Our hosts guided us through the monuments of Amber which is a small town about 5km from Jaipur but definitely worth the visit and more exciting than Jaipur itself. Jagatsiromani temple where we got private tour to the roof, Amber palace, the fort with the impressive view, the town wall (imagine China wall in small version), the chai with the priest, the kite festival, driving through some of the jewelery shops in hope that we would buy something (and the boys get commission)...
It would have been great if the guys didn't ask us for 'standard charge' and if we didn't get sick with our first food poisoning. We are still not sure whether it was those two liters of chai we drank that day or those three parathas we had for dinner or that mysterious thing we tried at the markets or the water or simply the combination... Let us just say that everything was worsened by the fact that we had to spend the night at toilet which wouldn't stand in comparison with 12th century latrine.

The roof - the original paint was made from vegetable and fruit juices - and still lasts.
View over Amber - you can see the wall on the horizon.
