Aoraki. Mt. Edgar Thompson

We knew that Mt. Edgar Thompson (2379m) will be about route finding. We probably picked the most difficult way to the top and went through few unstable moments on the slip fields and closer to the summit on the steep snow slope. But it was fun. Hen's first mountaineering. On the way down we were followed by a flock of five Keas. Amazing how they circle you and you can hear the sound of their wings in the wind. How curious these creatures are. They hopped on the snow slope with us all the way down slipping and digging their beaks into the snow just to be able to 'chew' on our iceaxe sling :-)
It's a funny feeling when you struggle to not to slip down and they just sit beside you and watch you...

The second top from the left, the one with the snow on the top. It looks faaaaar.

Reached the ridge. Getting closer but still far.

  Mt. Cook. The king.

 Lake Pukaki.

 Uh, still far.

Actually, this was very dangerous and crazy without a rope.

This Kea gangster kept following us together with his four friends the whole way down. Kept hopping on the snow with us and was very interested in our iceaxes and crampons.

This downhill was like skying on the stone fields.

PS: Ja vim Sigi, nekrm tu zver :-)
